PRCS- Creating Community through People, Parks and Programs

Would you like to get in on the ground floor of a brand-new facility? Then join the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services, Area Agency on Aging. We have an immediate opening for a Recreation Programmer at the brand new senior center located in Ashburn, VA. If you are creative and energetic and have a passion for recreation, then this could be the position you've been looking for. Reporting to the center manager, top priorities for this position will include implementing a variety of programs that meet the educational, recreational, and social needs of our center's participants.

In addition, this position will:

  • Complete needs assessments and re-assessments of clients and adjusts program schedule and content to respond to participants requests and needs at the senior center
  • Provide general supervision of facility participants, manage customer concerns, and assist with light facility maintenance tasks
  • Demonstrate administrative skills when maintaining confidential participant records, including the use of State and County required database software
  • Assist, as needed, with the coordination of facility rental use by notifying, supervising, and scheduling Facility Supervisor and provides back-up facility coordination of repairs and cleaning
  • Provide assistance with training and supervising center staff and volunteers
  • Coordinate volunteer activities
  • Provide back-up supervision for transportation services and substitutes as Passenger Vehicle Operator to transports seniors
  • Be available to work a varied schedule which will include early mornings, days, evenings, occasional weekends and some holidays

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma and two years of related work experience required
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Negative TB Test required

Special Requirements


  • Experience working with and planning programs for senior adults is highly preferred
  • Experience working with database software preferred
  • CDL license preferred at time of hire, however assistance may be provided to successful candidate to obtain appropriate CDL license within 4 months of hire
