The Land Development Division of the Department of Building and Development is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Planning Technician. This position is responsible for assisting planners with tasks associated with the review of land development applications. The primary focus of this position is assisting planners by; reviewing land use applications for completeness; accurately setting up and closing out (both physical and digital) land development application files within statutory timelines; assisting the Bonds Management Team with correspondence, filing, conducting research, and data entry tasks - including monitoring and maintaining the bonds file database; taking calls from a hotline for entry into the Loudoun Express Request System (LEx); accepting correspondence at front counter; maintaining transaction logs; managing payments; issuance of receipts; and routing delivery of correspondence and/or materials to appropriate staff; organizing and tracking files in and out of the file room; reviewing plats, plans, and permit applications, to ensure compliance with regulations; providing information to public and respond to inquiries from public matters concerning, land development applications, projects; plats, plans and permit applications. Our chosen applicant must be able to learn complex processes quickly, handle a variety of tasks throughout the day, and, above all, do so with great attention to detail. The ability to learn new computer systems is vital, as the County is in the middle of transitioning to a new cloud-based digital Land Management Information system.
Requires High School diploma or equivalent and at least two years of related experience. Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office, database software, and understanding of computer related equipment strongly preferred.
Strong customer service and organizational skills, the ability to be a reliable team member and also to work independently are musts for this position. Experience in local government, land development or urban planning is highly desirable.
