Job Description

The Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure, Transportation and Commuter Services Division is seeking qualified applicants for a Transportation Planner position. This position is responsible for managing Loudoun’s Transportation Demand Management program (TDM), as well as carpool, vanpool and Employer Outreach programs. The goal of these programs is to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles on the roads in Loudoun County and the region.

The responsibilities of the position include:

  • Utilizing strategic marketing and incentive programs to promote an increase in the number of carpools and vanpools formed each year.
  • Coordination and implementation of public outreach events to educate citizens on transit and commuter options available.
  • Proactively aid in increasing ridership on transit programs through advertising and marketing campaigns. 
  • Preparing and submitting grant applications for the TDM and the Employer Outreach and Vanpool programs.
  • Preparing reimbursement requests with detailed written quarterly reports.
  • Developing and implementing the marketing plan for each fiscal year.
  • Managing social media accounts for the TDM program and participating in community outreach and scheduled events.

This position represents Loudoun County at regional meetings with the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and occasionally the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission. Additionally, this position coordinates with the County’s Public Affairs and Communication Office to update the Transit and Commuter Services website and supervises one grant funded position responsible for the Employer Outreach Program.

Job Requirements

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Transportation Planning or other associated degree pertinent to the above described responsibilities, plus a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience, to include supervisory experience. This position also requires proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel programs. The successful candidate should be a team player with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, possess creative problem solving skills, be customer service oriented, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and be comfortable with public speaking to small groups.

Special Requirements

Occasional night time, early morning and weekend work is required.
