Do you want to use your education and commitment to make a positive difference in peoples' lives every work day? The Loudoun County Department of Family Services is seeking a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Information and Referral Specialist to join our team.

Job Description

This position provides information on a myriad of programs and services in response to specific inquiries from residents and community-based organizations. Through the use of an updated resource file and database, Information and Referral Specialists link individuals in need of information and/or services to appropriate resources.

Responsibilities include assessing an individual's needs; identifying appropriate resources; exploring options and assisting the individual to problem solve, as appropriate; advocating on behalf of the individual, when necessary; and maintaining accurate data records.

The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and work with frequent interruptions. Knowledge of human service systems, and experience working in support of people with diverse educational, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. Demonstrated knowledge of customer service principles and practices. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Excellent listening skills and the ability to apply critical thinking in order to respond effectively to situations.

Job Requirements

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, sociology, public administration, or related field and 2 years of related experience.

Special Requirements

  • Bi-lingual skills preferred (Spanish/English).
  • In the event of an emergency, you may be required to work and may be assigned to an alternate work site to carry out duties that support the needs of the County's residents or employees. May be required to work outside of the standard, scheduled work week.
