Job Description

The Loudoun County Commonwealth Attorney's Office seeks a full-time Deputy Commonwealth Attorney. The selected candidate will be responsible for the management and prosecution of cases in the Juvenile and Domestic, General District and Circuit Courts.

Under the general direction of the Chief Deputy and/or the Commonwealth Attorney, the Deputy Commonwealth Attorney prosecutes cases and supervises assigned attorneys who prosecute crimes for the Commonwealth. Additionally, this position supervises the managerial staff within the office, oversees attorneys, assigns cases, investigates crimes, tries cases, and executes other legal actions. Duties include managing and/or supervising a docket in Circuit Court (bench and jury trials), General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

The selected applicant must be capable of: managing a heavy caseload; skilled at legal research and writing; able to work both independently and collaboratively in an office that values integrity, civility, initiative, sound judgment and skilled advocacy.

Job Requirements

Requires a Juris Doctor Degree (JD) from an accredited law school and a license to practice in Virginia; nine (9) years of experience as a licensed practicing attorney with preferably jury trial and public relations experience in legal field related to assigned area and with extensive operational or administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

Must be licensed to practice law in Virginia or eligible for membership. Must be a member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar (ability to obtain a waiver of admission within a reasonable time is also acceptable, but should not to exceed four (4) months). Continue legal education annually.
