Loudoun County Government, Office of the County Administrator is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with impeccable interpersonal skills for the position of Chief of Staff to the County Administrator. The successful candidate will possess a broad-based knowledge of government operations, public administration, support to elected officials and public finance. The Chief of Staff serves as the responsible manager for the operations of the Office of the County Administrator and the primary liaison to the Board of Supervisors (Board) and their staff. Direct reports to the Chief of Staff include three (3) professional project managers and the Deputy Clerk to the Board. In total, the Chief of Staff serves as the leader for a team of twelve (12) professional and administrative employees. The Chief of Staff actively contributes to the County’s management as a member of the County’s senior management teams and serves as trusted advisor and direct report to the County Administrator.
The primary responsibilities of the Chief of Staff are in three areas:
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in Public Administration, Public Policy or a related field and five(5) years of related work experience in local government, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
The Chief of Staff must be highly skilled at developing and maintaining positive relationships and must be comfortable working up, down, and across all levels of the organization. The successful candidate will excel at thinking strategically and acting tactically and will possess an understanding of the various factors that affect County operations and decision making within local government.
The successful candidate must be objective and diplomatic, a consummate professional, and must possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
