The Loudoun County Department of Family Services is currently seeking qualified candidates who are looking to work in a diverse, exciting and fast paced work environment and have a desire to help others.

Job Description

This part-time, 20 hour per week position is responsible for:

  • Providing direct community outreach to a target population;
  • Developing and implementing an outreach plan centered on educating community partners and members about Public Assistance Programs to include Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, Fuel Assistance and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)
  • Participating in health fairs and other special events in the community
  • Serving on the Agency’s Outreach Committee
  • Completing tasks for event preparation to include creating presentations, data entry, phone calls, and preparation of materials
  • Maintaining outcomes and reports from all community outreach engagement activities
  • Working with Public Affairs to plan educational campaigns

This position will be located in our Leesburg office, but may work from other locations, as needed. This position may work off-site most days, participating in community outreach projects and working with public partners to develop outreach events. Evening and weekend hours may be required, dependent on outreach event scheduling.

People who are successful in this role: • Are comfortable speaking in front of groups of varying sizes; • Demonstrate the ability to educate customers about the application process and effectively explain complex federal, state and local public assistance policies; • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; • Demonstrate an understanding of social media platforms and their application to enhancing program awareness; • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain composure and professionalism in personal interactions and public relations; • Are comfortable with using automated technology and experience working with Microsoft Office products; • Demonstrate the ability to make mathematical computations accurately; • Are able to schedule, organize and manage workload sufficient to meet deadlines; and • Function well in a team environment.

Job Requirements

• Requires education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in sociology, psychology, communication, marketing, or public administration. • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Special Requirements

• Fluency in Spanish is preferred; • Some experience in Public Assistance preferred
