Then #JoinTheFunWithPRCS and become part of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services Maintenance Team. We have immediate openings for year round Outdoor Maintenance Technicians located throughout the county.

The Maintenance division provides support to multiple areas within the department such as mowing, ballfield maintenance and renovation, equipment repairs, facility maintenance, emergency response, special event support and special projects. Maintenance Technicians respond to routine inquires and complaints, and assist with record keeping. Maintenance Technician positions require skills used to perform general grounds maintenance tasks such as:

  • Mowing and trimming
  • Trash removal
  • Athletic field preparation for daily use, tournaments and special events
  • Turf management
  • Trail and woodland maintenance

General maintenance is needed during all seasons of the year on indoor and outdoor projects. Maintenance Technician positions require the skills needed to perform tasks such as:

  • General painting and carpentry
  • Inspection of buildings, facilities and grounds
  • Preparation and breakdown for special events
  • Snow removal during the winter months at various sites throughout assigned areas

Basic mechanical skills are needed to operate and perform preventative maintenance on machinery, equipment, vehicles and tools as necessary to complete tasks. A Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred for all positions, with some positions requiring a Class A CDL. Some positions will also perform pesticide applications throughout most of the year. These positions require a minimum of 3 years’ experience applying pesticides as well as hold their own commercial pesticide applicators license for turf grass and ornamental grasses (3A & 3B).

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule which will vary and include early mornings and evenings, weekend hours required as well. This position is subject to call for "Essential 24 hour operations". Moderate physical effort, including lifting is required.

Job Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School Diploma
  • 2 years job related experience in grounds maintenance and/or field preparations
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain certification within 4 months required
  • Some positions require a Class A CDL
  • Some positions require a minimum of 3 years’ experience applying pesticides as well as hold their own commercial pesticide applicators license for turf grass and ornamental grasses (3A & 3B)

Special Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A with passenger endorsement preferred for all positions. The CDL incumbent of this position must comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program as outlined by Loudoun County's Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees.   • CPR certification preferred
  • Licensed as a Pesticide Registered Technician in the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred
  • OSHA certification as a forklift operator preferred
  • Membership in Virginia Recreation and Park Society preferred
  • Certified as a Playground Inspector by the National Playground Safety Institute is preferred
  • Grounds maintenance and/or field preparations with graduation from a technical school preferred
