Job Description

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Youth Initiative Specialist located in Leesburg, VA.

Youth Initiative Specialists develop and implement proactive youth outreach strategies, and provide appropriate individual support and guidance. This position assists with the identification, development, planning and implementation of adolescent intervention programs. Duties include coordinating and overseeing Youth Advisory Council (YAC), Loudoun Youth Initiative (LYI), Board of Governors, Leadership Team and Cabinet Committee events, activities, programs and services. The Youth Initiative Specialist is responsible for event planning, management and oversight of large events such as Improv Fest, Step Up and Battle of the Bands to include scheduling, marketing, and recruiting. Specialist must have the ability to develop budget plans for the YAC program and other special events. As well have the skills to coordinate set up, manage inventory, and purchase and procure equipment and supplies to insure program and event standards are met.

Strong organizational and creative skills with a strong focus on customer service are needed to:

  • Publicize programs to insure maximum enrollment through the use of social media and traditional marketing techniques
  • Coordinate and manage the dissemination of program information
  • Design, update and maintain the structure and content of youth-oriented website (www.loudounteens.org) and social network sites

Successful candidates must be able to work a 7.5 hour work day, between 7:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday; including occasional night or weekend events.

Job Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with major study in a human services field or a related field
  • Two years' experience with youth program development, administration, and/or management.

  • Working with teens
  • Working with non-profits and other agencies serving teens
  • Community outreach, public speaking, and event planning
  • Marketing and promotion
  • Planning, organizing and staging large community based special events, festivals and concerts
