This position is with the Department of Building and Development Code Enforcement Division. Duties include the review of all assigned commercial and structural plans and submissions for compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC). Maintain strict compliance with the review time limitations established by the Building Official to meet the intent of the USBC. Maintain a high level of problem solving skills. Manage/participate in special projects, as assigned. Attend all mandatory training as required by title 36 of the Code of Virginia and ensure required plan review certifications are current. Proactively provide technical information to owners, contractors, architects, and the general public in a professional, courteous, and timely manner. Process and conduct reviews prior to submission. Respond to all phone inquiries the same day received. Communicate professionally with other staff members and customers.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in structural engineering or a related field and three (3) years of experience in the building construction trade to include considerable experience interacting with the public.
Must become certified by the Virginia State Board of Housing and Community Development as a Commercial Plans Examiner and Commercial Building Inspector within the timeframe stated in State guidelines from the time of employment and maintain the required certifications in accordance with Virginia Certification Standards. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with Loudoun County Human Resources policy.
