The Department of Building & Development, Natural Resources Division, is seeking a candidate for a Full time-time, customer service driven professional as a Natural Resources Engineer. This position lies within a diverse group of Subject Matter Experts and will serve as a project manager in cross-team initiatives. This S3 level, Engineer III position works under the supervision of the Natural Resources Team Leader to implement County’s ordinances, regulations and standards regarding natural resources. Responsibilities include: Permit and plan review of Land Development Applications to ensure compliance with the Loudoun County Zoning Ordinances and the Facilities Standards Manual; responding to natural resources inquiries; communication and coordination with interdisciplinary staff; and preparing status reports and memos. This position would be expected to participate in initiatives associated with the County’s natural resources such as those including developing and recommending draft revisions to the Facilities Standard Manual and County Ordinances. Must exhibit the ability to work independently; excellent organizational skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with development industry, as well as the public and other county, state and federal agencies. Possesses excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Experience in natural resource issues, the ability to diplomatically communicate technical issues, familiarity with construction plans and understanding of the effects of development on the County’s natural resources are preferred.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Geotechnical Engineering, Natural Resources Management/Planning, Forestry, Geology or related field and three years related experience.
Valid state issued driver’s license. Preference given to those candidates that hold a professional license / certification in their field of discipline (e.g. LPSS, PE, ISA-CA, CZA, CPG, etc.). Applicants should be proficient with Microsoft Office, and have experience with GIS software. Must be able to work in possible adverse weather conditions and on varying types of terrain. This position is expected to attend some night and weekend meetings.
