The Public Affairs and Communications Division of the Office of the County Administrator is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative visual communicator to join its team as the Visual Communications Specialist.
We’re looking for a creative graphic design professional, with demonstrated skills and exceptional proficiency in using Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, as well as an understanding of print and digital design principles that integrate typographic, photographic, illustrative and graphic elements. The successful candidate for this position will be self-motivated, organized, and creative, and demonstrate an ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

This position will report to the Communications Manager. The Visual Communications Specialist will work as a member of the Public Affairs and Communications team to execute internal and external communications strategies and tactics to keep the public and employees informed about departmental programs and services. As part of the team, successful candidate will create a range of graphic design content including, but not limited to: print and digital communications, on-site video and photography, signage, promotional products, social media, and special projects. The Visual Communications Specialist will also work to ensure compliance with the county’s brand identity to advance communication objectives. The successful candidate will meet deadlines and show strong project management skills—working with others or as part of a team—to see the intended message carried out from inception to finished digital or print media. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, organized, creative, and demonstrate the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, as well as show a demonstrated understanding of printing, typography, color, photography, and illustration. The Visual Communications Specialist must be able to develop effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a design or communications-related field and at least three (3) years of experience in graphic design is required. Proficiency with both Mac and Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) is required. Knowledge of video editing and photography. Familiarity with web design and Content Management Systems. Knowledge and skill with email marketing platforms and social media. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous government, in-house, or non-profit communications experience. Skill in using the full capabilities of Adobe Creative Suite. Experience working within brand guides or standards. Experience with project management or using a project management tool. Demonstrated ability to develop graphic communications that effectively reach and motivate identified audiences.
