Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) delivers essential emergency and non-emergency Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from 20 strategically located stations, responding to more than 29,000 incidents annually. LCFR, as part of the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System (LC-CFRS), provides administrative, operational, and logistical support for the County’s 14 volunteer fire rescue companies, the LC-CFRS Executive Committee, and its governance structure. Job Description

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue is a State-Approved Agency for Veterans Education and Training. Eligible veterans are able to use their GI Bill benefits while attending the recruit academy as well as the remainder of their probation period in operations. Additional information about Loudoun County Fire and Rescue is accessible at Loudoun County Fire and Rescue is currently seeking qualified applicants to establish an eligibility pool for the position of Firefighter/EMT. Selected candidates are expected to provide skilled emergency and non-emergency related services, including, but not limited to: fire suppression, basic and advanced pre-hospital emergency medical care, hazardous materials incident response, technical rescue operations, life safety, public education program delivery, and other duties, as assigned. All candidates will be required to successfully complete a Fire-Rescue Recruit School before assignment to a fire and rescue station.

ALS Benefit: We are seeking Advanced Life Support (ALS) Providers to join our organization. Upon local authorization, an Intermediate or Paramedic will become eligible for a $10,000 one-time, lump sum incentive, in addition to an ALS Stipend. The current ALS Stipends, in addition to base salary, are Intermediate - $12,000 and Paramedic - $14,000.

Job Requirements

Candidates must be at least age 18 years old and possess a High School Diploma or equivalent by December 1, 2019. A valid driver’s license is also required at the time of hire. As part of the selection process, applicants may be disqualified for use of drugs, certain driving violations, or other factors based on selection criteria. Bi-lingual candidates are preferred. Successful candidates must be tobacco-free and nicotine-free, both on and off duty, at the time of appointment and remain tobacco and nicotine free for the duration of their employment with Loudoun County Fire and Rescue.

Special Requirements

Preference will be given to those candidates possessing one or more of the following: Virginia Intermediate, Virginia or National Registry Paramedic, Loudoun County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Experience and/or Military Experience.

Failure to complete the questionnaire will result in disqualification from the hiring process.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

The selection process may take up to nine months and includes the successful completion of a Comprehensive Written Examination, Physical Ability Test, Polygraph Examination, comprehensive background check, to include NCIC/VCIN criminal history check, fingerprinting, a driving record check, NFPA 1582 Medical Examination/Substance Abuse Screening, and an in-person interview to be placed in the eligibility pool. The number of candidates selected to move through each stage of the process will be based on the number of available vacancies. Please note, all written testing will occur November 19, 21 and 23, 2019. Physical agility testing (PAT) will occur December 2019. There will not be any additional dates available for either of these steps in the hiring process. The PAT is a proprietary test administered by Loudoun County Fire and Rescue. CPAT certifications are not recognized and will not be accepted in lieu of the test.
