Job Description

The Loudoun County Attorney’s Office has an opening for an attorney in the land use and development section. Responsibilities may include:

  • Review of proffer statements, special exception conditions, and legal documents associated with land development applications
  • Legal review of staff reports, referral comments, zoning/proffer determinations, memoranda and other correspondence prepared by County staff
  • Assist with preparation and review of development ordinance amendments
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to County staff, officials, boards and commissions
  • Assist staff in responding to FOIA request
  • Litigation of land use and development matters (including enforcement), as needed

The successful candidate must be detail-oriented; possess strong analytical, time management and organizational skills; and communicate effectively orally and in writing. Candidates invited for an interview will be asked to provide a legal writing sample. Prior local government or land use/development experience is preferred, but not required. Candidates should be able to articulate their experience and/or interest in these practice areas.

Job Requirements

Candidates must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school (or equivalent as state law provides) and be a member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar. At least three (3) years of relevant experience is required; however, entry level candidates with a strong academic record may be considered. Salary will be based on experience.
