The Natural Resources Division of the Department of Building and Development is seeking candidates for a full-time position on the Floodplain Management Team. This position lies within a diverse group of Subject Matter Experts and will serve as a key advisor in cross team initiatives. This S4 level, Engineer IV position works directly under the direction of the Floodplain Administrator to assist with the daily implementation of the National Flood Insurance Program. Responsibilities include: Daily review of permits and Land Development Applications to ensure compliance with the Loudoun County Zoning Ordinances and the Facilities Standards Manual; responding to floodplain related inquiries; assists in the preparation of various documents and reports such as letters of map revision/amendments, Community Assistance Visits (CAV) responses, flood zone verification, flood insurance response, status reports, and memos. Actively participates in coordinating with FEMA and State Floodplain Manager representatives during CAV and NFIP reviews, and supports the Floodplain Administrator in maintaining the programmatic objectives established by FEMA. This position would be expected to participate in any director initiatives associated with the Countyâ€™s natural resources such as those included in the Loudoun County Revised Comprehensive Plan.
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related field; and four years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver's license is required. A Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certificate is required within one (1) year of beginning employment. Applicants should have experience with Microsoft Office, HEC-RAS, or similar software.
