Job Description

Loudoun County Department of Family Services is seeking qualified applicants with a demonstrated interest in working with older adults and adults with disabilities to join a dynamic team as an Adult and Aging Family Services Specialist. The successful candidate will join a diverse department that offers the opportunity to work in an energetic, challenging environment in which in-depth assessment and service planning ensure the highest quality service delivery to vulnerable individuals. The position requires an enthusiastic team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to handle investigations under difficult and potentially hostile or crisis conditions; dedication to the population served by Adult Protective Services (APS); and experience managing competing priorities and a demanding workload. APS considers every member of the team to play a crucial role in achieving our mission to stop abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We are seeking candidates who approach their work with passion, diligence, and a collaborative attitude. This position is located in our Leesburg office, and may work from other locations, as needed. Hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with flexible scheduling to meet operational needs.

Job Requirements

This position will be responsible for:

  • Investigating APS reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of individuals who are over 60 years old or who are 18 years or older and incapacitated
  • Assessing the need for guardianship/conservatorship and facilitates the process to include medical documentation, preparation of information required for petitions, testimony in court and advocacy 
  • Assessing the need of mental health intervention 
  • Conducting Medicaid Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS) screenings
  • Case management
  • Community outreach and collaboration
  • Other tasks as assigned

Special Requirements

  • Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Gerontology or a related field and 3 years of related experience
  • Experience working with older adults and/or adults with disabilities 
  • Valid resident driver's license
  • Must be available to participate in responsibility for overnight/weekend APS coverage (one week every 4-6 weeks) as well as to cover daytime APS intake as needed


  • APS/AS case management experience 
  • Master's Degree
  • Spanish fluency
