Searching for a new challenge? Are you looking for an exciting position working in a state of the art recreation facility? Then #JoinTheFunWithPRCS and become part of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services team. We have an immediate opening for an Aquatics Programmer.

PRCS Recreation Centers are a go-to destination with their indoor leisure and competition pool, state of the art fitness center, full size gymnasium, indoor climbing wall, special event and meeting rooms as well as a community center. The Aquatics Programmer uses creativity and organizational skills to plan and implement aquatics programs, activities, classes and special events, as well as develop marketing materials to promote those programs. This includes developing a variety of programs to serve all segments of a diverse population. Analytical and planning skills are necessary to successfully gather data and identify trends, in turn creating programs that not only attract customers but meet their expectations and needs. Aquatics Programmers recruit and interview class instructors, schedule facilities, and coordinate equipment and supplies to assure program quality. Strong customer service and supervisory skills are necessary for this position as the Aquatics Programmer also acts as the Manager on Duty.

Duties may include:

  • Manage day-to-day operations during assigned shifts in the absence of the Center Managers
  • Oversee and perform general supervision of facility drop-in users, renters and participants and handle customer concerns
  • Assist with light facility maintenance tasks, such as room set up and break down to ensure the center is inviting to staff and customers alike

Successful candidates must be willing to work a very flexible work schedule; to include early mornings, days, evenings and weekends to meet center needs.

Job Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education or related field
  • Virginia state licensing requires 6 months experience supervising children during recreational or educational activities
  • Valid Driver’s License required

Special Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer experience in community and group recreational activities
  • Membership in the Virginia Recreation and Park Society is beneficial to the position
  • Preferred certifications include WSI, WSIT, LG, LGI,CPO or AFO

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

  • Criminal background, credit, Child Protective Services (CPS) and DMV record checks required
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR for adult and child within 30 days of employment
  • Negative TB test result is required prior to beginning work
