Receives specific on-the-job training in various custodial cleaning and maintenance techniques used to keep a college campus or facility in a clean and orderly condition for effective use by students, faculty, staff, and the public, in preparation for a promotion to a custodian position.
Receives training in custodial services such as servicing bathrooms, cleaning and polishing floors, dust mopping and sweeping floors and other areas, vacuuming, shampooing, and treating carpets, washing, spot cleaning, and disinfecting walls, windows, furniture, plumbing, light fixtures, window coverings and related items, removing graffiti, disposing of rubbish, paper, and debris, replacing existing light fixture lamps, and refinishing hardwood floors.
Assists in gathering rubbish, paper and debris.
Assists in moving, setting-up, and adjusting chairs and other small furniture and equipment used for classrooms, offices and special activities.
Receives training in safely moving, setting-up, adjusting, and dismantling heavy furniture such as tables, desks and other equipment used for classrooms, offices and special activities.
May give out information in regards to locations of various campus facilities and otherwise assist students, faculty, staff, and the general public using the campus facilities.
May receive training in the operations of trash compactor and other equipment such as sweepers, blowers, power washers, electric carts, scrubbing machines, and steam cleaning machines as well as college-owned vehicles on public streets.
Performs related duties as assigned.
A Custodial Trainee, receives on-the-job training in various custodial cleaning and maintenance techniques used to keep a college campus or facility in a clean and orderly condition for effective use by students, faculty, staff, and the public in preparation for a promotion to a custodian position. Assignments in this job class shall be for specific on-the-job training sessions of limited duration not to exceed 90 working days.
A Custodian performs a wide variety of custodial duties to keep assigned areas of buildings and paved areas in a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly condition.
A Custodial Supervisor serves as an assistant shift supervisor for a group of Custodians which is sufficiently large to require intermediate levels of supervision to assure custodial assignments are completed in an effective, efficient, and timely manner; or may serve as a shift supervisor for a group of Custodians which is sufficiently small to allow personal and immediate supervision of all custodial activities on the shift; may perform a variety of custodial work.
Immediate supervision is received from custodial supervisory staff. No supervision is exercised.

Learn sterilization and sanitation methods and techniques used in custodial work
Learn safe use of chemical and cleaning agents used in custodial work
Learn safe use of floor machines, vacuums, blowers, power washers, and other power equipment used in custodial work
Learn safe lifting and moving techniques involving heavy supplies, equipment, and furniture
Education:
Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
