IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate will have experience in InDesign and/or other similar graphics programs. The ideal candidate will have experience with, or proficiency in, some of the following: Constant Contact, legal advertising, social media, conversational Spanish, Microsoft Office, WordPress, and ADA compliance. Previous work experience in an urban design or planning environment is a plus.
A Bachelor's degree; and
Three or more years of experience planning, implementing or managing public and/or media relations, community relations or community education programs.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Considerable knowledge of functions, activities, requirements, procedures, objectives and regulations of event planning and community engagement
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations program management
- Working knowledge of social media platforms
- Excellent knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling; Bi-lingual a plus
- Working knowledge of photographic and audiovisual equipment
- Proficiency in InDesign or a similar graphics program
- Proficiency in making presentations to groups
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Outlook
- Ability to collect and organize data and develop presentations
- Ability to execute and mange various long term projects while maintaining daily short-term tasks
- Ability to use considerable initiative, think independently, and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others within and outside our organization
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

- Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others
- Formulates comprehensive program plans and strategies pertaining to developing and improving media and community relations to include coordinating agency speakers for special events and programs.
- Uses InDesign and Canva to create documents, flyers, social media designs, flyers and other promotional materials for public engagement outreach initiatives.
- Effectively uses various social media platforms for public engagement.
- Coordinates studies to determine program priorities relative to fund utilization and resource allocation.
- Prepares recommendations involving special community funding matters.
- Conducts pertinent statistical research and program analysis within the area of media and community relations planning to promote a positive informative relationship with the community.
- Reviews and edits materials of other staff before distribution.
- Ensures presentations and other materials are ADA compliant.
- Provides liaison and coordinates with other branches/sections of Plan Hillsborough and external agencies/departments to ensure flow of communications and services; interprets and explains applicable regulations, functions and procedures.
- Prepares and delivers verbal, written and visual presentations to staff, advisory councils, citizen groups and government officials.
- Represents Plan Hillsborough at meetings, functions and events.
- Compiles data and participates in preparing statistical analyses and reports of activities and achievements.
- May serve as Public Relations or Public Information Officer of a major county agency.
- May supervise and participate in the hiring of subordinate staff personnel engaged in program development, administration and evaluation.
- Performs other related duties as required.
