Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Six years experience as a Firefighter, Fire Medic I, Fire Medic III, Fire Inspector I, Fire Inspector II, Driver Engineer, Captain, or Lead Fire Investigator with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue; and
Possession of a State of Florida Instructor I Certification; and
Possession of a State of Florida Firefighter’s Certificate of Compliance; and
Possession of a valid Florida Driver License.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Considerable knowledge of the Fire Rescue organization and its policies and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, practices, procedures, equipment and apparatus used in modern fire fighting and in the protection of life and property from fire.
Considerable knowledge in the theory and application of Incident Command procedures.
Considerable knowledge of current developments in instructional presentation mediums.
Considerable knowledge of current Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support practices.
Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to fire rescue.
Working knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
Ability to handle confidential information.
Ability to make presentations to large groups of diverse people.
Ability to perform work requiring considerable physical exertion under hazardous conditions, such as fire fighting, mass casualty operations, and hazardous materials incidents.
Ability to prepare and maintain detailed records and reports.
Ability to work effectively with others.
Ability to communicate effectively orally, non-verbally, and in writing.
Ability to maintain combat firefighter readiness status.
Ability to use a computer and related software.
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Researches, develops and coordinates fire fighting and/or medical rescue instructional courses including the formulation and modification of curriculum to provide an effective and efficient training program.
Develops teaching plans, outlines and examinations to ensure quality training.
Instructs fire rescue personnel in fire fighting and fire prevention practices, equipment use and handling, and/or the proper treatment of the sick and injured to provide for the welfare and safety of citizens.
Administers and scores examinations to evaluate student comprehension and instructor effectiveness.
Presents educational programs to community groups and personnel from other agencies on topics related to fire suppression and/or emergency medical services.
Reviews medical treatment records to ensure compliance with established medical treatment protocols and/or reviews fire reports to ensure compliance with fire fighting procedures according to the depth of experience of the fire rescue training officer.
Assists in developing protocols for medical and/or fire fighting techniques.
Attends formal training courses and conducts independent research to maintain currency with fire fighting and/or medical rescue innovations and instructor certifications.
Gathers data and completes reports pertinent to emergency medical and/or firefighting activities.
Performs medical rescue duties as necessary.
Responds to fire alarms for suppression duties as directed by the incident commander.
Performs other related duties as required.

- Tuition Reimbursement: Employees may be reimbursed up to $1,000 (undergraduate), $2000 (graduate) per fiscal year for classes at an accredited college or university for courses that enhance your ability to perform your current job duties.
- Holidays: Employees receive up to twelve (12) paid holidays per year.
