IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
A Bachelor's degree in a Natural Science; and
Two years of experience in environmental lands management.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver License
An equivalent combination of relevant education (not less than a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted above.

Very heavy work - Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

- Weekend and evening work may be required.
- Operates vehicles, trucks, and UTVs.
- This position may be required to report for work, and work long hours, when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Hillsborough County.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below:
- Supervises the work of one or more field staff.
- Acts as Project Manager for various land management projects.
- Provides training for staff, and reports training needs to supervisor.
- Conducts exotic plant control using herbicide and other methods.
- Attends job skill training and applies new skills, as needed.
- Documents daily activities in preserves, including plant & animal sightings.
- Completes forms and other paperwork as needed to write speficiations, scopes of work, and other forms of written documentation.
- Assists with habitat restoration activities.
- Maintains inventory and orders supplies.
- Conducts regular site security inspections.
- Assists with exotic/ invasive/ nuisance animal removal.
- Fastens and transport loads such as heavy equipment, UTV’s, mowers, etc. using trucks and trailers
- Trims limbs and brush using hand tools and power saws.
- Operates tractors, backhoes and other heavy machinery.
- Constructs and maintains signs, restroom facilities, and parking areas at various preserves.
- Maintains grounds, trails and fire lanes through mowing, disking, trimming, etc.
- Conducts preventative maintenance on tractors, UTV’s, mowers, power tools, and other equipment.
- Obtains and maintains Florida Certified Prescribed Burn Manager certification, as directed, and lead prescribed burns.
- Obtains (within 6 months of hiring), and maintains valid, Restricted Use Pesticide License (Natural Areas Category), throughout employment.
- Obtains (within 6 months of hiring), and maintains valid Florida Class A or Class B CDL License with Tanker Endorsement throughout employment.
- Obtains and maintains Florida Certified Prescribed Burn Manager certification, as directed.
- Performs other duties as related to land management.
- Knowledge of preserve locations, trails, and access points.
- Knowledge of safe and proficient operation of tractors and similar heavy equipment.
- Good interpersonal relations skills with public and co-workers.
- Other skills and abilities related to land management.
- Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and technical directions.

- Ability to obtain and maintain Restricted Use Pesticide License/Natural Areas category.
- Ability to attend prescribed fire training, become a Florida Certified Prescribed Burner, lead burns, and maintain certification.
- Ability to safely operate power tools such as power saws, trimmers, mowers, etc.
SPECIAL PROBATIONARY NOTE
- Must obtain within 6 months of hiring, and maintain valid Restricted Use Pesticide License/Natural Areas Category throughout employment.
- Must obtain within 6 months of hiring, and maintain valid Florida Class A or B CDL license with tanker endorsement throughout employment.
- Must pass basic firefighting training courses (S130, S190, I100) within 1 year of employment.
