IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate will have:
- three (3) years of clerical experience, two (2) of which consist of direct experience working with legal documents
- broad knowledge of the court system
- experience reading and comprehending office-related materials to include legal terminology commonly used in courts
- effective communication skills and experience providing excellent customer service telephonically and/or in person to the public, judges, judicial assistant and attorneys
- the ability to sit for long periods of time
- experience processing work in a computer system
- experience with Excel and Word
- experience prioritizing and multi-tasking as well as being diligent in paying close attention to detail
- the flexibility to occasionally work beyond the normal 8 to 5 work day
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Three years of clerical experience; including
Two years of experience in the processing, examining, preparing or reviewing of any type of legal document.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Working knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
- Some knowledge of general office policies, procedures and practices.
- Some knowledge of English grammar and spelling, and arithmetic.
- Ability to perform accurate computations and verifications of data.
- Ability to type, operate data processing, word processing and other office equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with government officials, other employees, and the public.

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.
• Provides efficient customer service to 13th Judicial personnel, Private Attorneys, Public Defenders office, outside Mental Health facilities, e.g., ACTS, DAACO, Gracepoint, etc., and the public by phone or by e-mail.
• Responsible for interviewing customers to determine the proper case type for the petitioner to file and explain the filing process, e.g., Marchman Act (substance and alcohol abuse cases and Baker Acts (mental illness) and Firearm Disability.
• Responsible for scheduling hearing.
• Responsible for processing daily reports from the Magistrate and Mental Health facilities.
• Process Orders from the Judge.
• Prepare service packets.
• Responsible for processing subsequent filings in the Case Management System.
• Verifying cases in the E-Portal for accuracy.
• Responsible for maintaining cases.
• Back-up Courtroom clerks and attend court proceedings and process paperwork.
• Back-up for the Incapacity cases desk.
• Back-up all areas in Mental Health.
• Performs other related duties as required.
