IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
Five years of experience managing planning-related outreach efforts for various audiences through various forms of activities.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations relevant to program areas and the principles and practices of urban and regional planning
- Knowledge of the role of a Planning Commission and Metropolitan Planning Organization in land use and transportation planning and decision making
- Knowledge of web-based systems for social networking, discussion forums, wikis, blogs and search engine optimization
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to set directives evaluate program performance, and establish measurable goals
- Skill in the use of InDesign, Photoshop and similar programs
- Excellent management and relationship-building skills and have a comfortable public presence
- Strong Project Management skills
- Ability to translate complicated planning policy and topics into simple and easy to read information for consumption by elected officials, appointed boards and the general public
- Ability to lead or assist with special planning projects
- Ability to lead, motivate and supervise teams
- Ability to formulate effective project strategies, determine project objectives, and set priorities
- Ability to coordinate, lead, engage, and create excitement around outreach efforts in regards to land use and transportation projects , plans and programs
- Prepares and reviews a variety of written correspondence, press releases, media alerts, public hearing notice advertisements, newsletters, reports, fact sheets, speeches, proclamations and resolutions, and public involvement and outreach for internal and external distribution.

- Plans and conducts public participation/outreach activities such as public meetings, outreach events, and presentations.
- Develops and coordinates media campaigns and strategies; manages media and community relations, and liaisons with other agencies, public groups, citizens' committees and other parties regarding public information issues.
