Performs duties maintaining, cutting, and removing trees using hand operated, mechanical, and power tools and equipment.


Completion of the ninth school grade; and
Two years of work experience in tree trimming and felling.

Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and

Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL).

  • Working knowledge of tree trimming and felling methods.
  • Working knowledge of the various tools and equipment used to trim or fell trees.
  • Working knowledge of safety practices concerning tree trimming and felling.
  • Skill in the use of various tools and equipment used to trim or fell trees.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability and willingness to climb trees and work at heights in excess of 30 feet.
  • Ability to read maps and charts to identify trees to be trimmed or felled.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.

  • Climbs trees using climbing equipment, to reach limbs and branches to be cut.
  • Trims tree limbs, following established safety procedures, using pruners, hand or power saws, or other appropriate equipment to remove damaged limbs, broken limbs or limbs interfering with power lines, structures or right of ways.
  • Fells trees, following established safety procedures, that are interfering with utilities, structures or right of ways or that have been damaged by an act of nature or disease.
  • Reads maps and charts to identify trees to be felled or trimmed.
  • Surveys areas around trees to be trimmed or felled to determine most appropriate technique(s) to use to prevent damage to property or injury to persons.
  • Cleans and performs operator servicing, preventive maintenance and simple repairs to equipment used.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
