JOB OVERVIEW

Performs duties developing, analyzing and modifying paratransit vehicle schedules using automated scheduling software.   Supervises and monitors daily route performance of assigned drivers and takes appropriate actions in response to accidents, incidents, vehicle breakdowns, and other irregularities that occur throughout the work day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate;

and One year of work experience as a route scheduler or dispatcher; and one year operating a passenger vehicle for hire or nonprofit organization transporting passengers.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and

Possession of a valid Driver License.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

  • Designs, analyzes and modifies paratransit routes to maximize driver and vehicle resources for route efficiency; using computer aided scheduling/dispatching systems.
  • Manages computer data regarding all vehicle routing and scheduling assignments. 
  • Dispatches drivers daily and insures proper type vehicle is assigned based upon capacity and special needs. 
  • Supervises and monitors the daily work schedule of drivers.  Maintains and monitors daily work hours, overtime and leave requests.
  • Coordinates efforts in response to vehicle breakdowns, accidents and passenger concerns.
  • Coordinates with external customers/agencies to ensure transportation needs are met and service issues, special accommondations and time adjustments are properly addressed.
  • Participates in emergency evacuation and disaster recovery efforts.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sitting for extended periods of time in an office environment using a computer and other office and communication equipment throughout the work day.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SOME POSITIONS

Passing a background review prior to employment; and conformance to Departmental standards within the probationary period.
