Performs duties collecting and organizing tangible personal property (TPP) data for valuation purposes in preparation of the ad valorem tax roll.


An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university; and
Six months of experience appraising tangible personal property.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

  • Working knowledge of appraisal practices and procedures related to property valuation.
  • Working knowledge of office policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Florida Statutes and rules of the Department of Revenue related to tangible personal property appraisal.
  • Working knowledge of general accounting and bookkeeping practices and procedures.
  • Ability to render judgments concerning the value of tangible personal property.
  • Ability to record descriptive data accurately and completely.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to work in sub-tropical climates under adverse weather conditions.


  • Plans, organizes, and prepares daily work activities by reviewing TPP returns; and acquires property record cards and maps, using the Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal System (CAMA).
  • Conducts on-site inspections to locate, list, and value tangible personal property described by the property owner or TPP returns.
  • Verifies values are uniform and are reflective of fair market value.
  • Determines value of taxable tangible personal property using information provided on tangible personal property returns, and investigates incomplete or questionable returns.
  • Investigates inquiries and complaints concerning value; confers with property owners or their representatives to explain the method, procedures, and policies with respect to the value placed on tangible personal property.
  • Collects, updates, and inputs data from multiple sources into the computer system related to tangible personal property type, age, location, size, condition, use, purchase price, and market value.
  • Records information for property valuation on prescribed forms and compiles and reviews various reports.
  • Performs minor safety and operational checks on assigned vehicles.
  • Discusses, reviews, and responds to general assessment inquires from the public.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Successful completion of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) Course 101 within one year of hire.  Subject to waiver or extension by the appointing authority due to extenuating circumstances.
