JOB OVERVIEW

Performs minor technical and clerical support duties to maintain a telephone system and related equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and

Two years of telephone installation experience.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and

Possession of a valid Driver License.

  • Working knowledge of personal computers and the operation of job related software.
  • Some knowledge of standard practices associated with telephone installation and repair.
  • Some knowledge of basic electricity and electronics.
  • Some knowledge of telephone billing procedures.
  • Skill in accurately entering data using a personal computer and job related software.
  • Skill in the use and care of standard tools, equipment and testing devices to install and maintain telephones.
  • Ability to locate, define and repair defective telephone equipment.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
  • Installs single and multi-line telephones.
  • Troubleshoots telephones and replaces defective parts to include receiver, base, pad caps and connective wiring.
  • Installs wiring into modular plugs using a modular amp gun and tests for correct voltage.
  • Monitors communications traffic flow reports to identify useage patterns.
  • Receives reports regarding telephone problems and determines appropriate service response.
  • Prepares service authorizations for installing, moving, and changing features on telephones.
  • Creates and updates a computerized telephone directory.
  • Updates computerized inventory of telephone equipment.
  • Reviews commercial telephone bills to verify accuracy and support cost controls.
  • Reviews equipment stock levels and recommends purchases as needed.
  • Prepares telephone communication activity reports.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
