JOB OVERVIEW

Performs shift supervisory duties overseeing the operation of an emergency communications center to dispatch emergency services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and

One year of experience as a Telecommunicator; and

Two years of supervisory or management experience.

Or

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

  • Considerable knowledge of the communication center standard operating procedures and regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of effective emergency communication techniques. Working knowledge of digital and audio communications equipment operation.
  • Ability to operate and train others in digital and audio dispatching equipment operations.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations and determine proper course of action in a calm, controlled, and expeditious manner.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Receives telephone calls from citizens requesting emergency assistance; screens incoming calls and initiates appropriate action.
  • Operates digital and audio communications equipment to dispatch law enforcement, emergency medical vehicles, or fire units.
  • Supervises and trains subordinate employees in effective emergency communication techniques and equipment operation.
  • Maintains records such as shift reports, operational logs and equipment availability.
  • Assumes command of radio dispatching, as required, in an emergency situation.
  • Evaluates the performance of subordinate employees.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
