JOB OVERVIEW

Performs duties supervising and analyzing automotive equipment repair and maintenance requests to determine proper course of action.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and

Two years of experience in the repair or repair assessment of automobiles, heavy equipment, aircraft, or inboard engine marine craft.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and

Possession of a valid Driver License.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Oversees the service writing area to ensure that service to customers is prompt and efficient.
  • Orders and maintains spare parts inventory.
  • Analyzes automotive equipment malfunctions described by customers to determine required repairs, maintenance or other possible courses of action.
  • Assigns work to available mechanics based on individual qualifications and workload.
  • Contacts customers to discuss additional repairs, repair status, equipment pick up, and other related matters.
  • Prepares and maintains work order data, provides information to mechanics, and informs customers of billing costs.
  • Tracks equipment maintenance and repair service history using a mainframe terminal to determine cost effectiveness and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Arranges for servicing and transportation of equipment under warranty with outside vendors, and maintains records of related invoices.
  • Reviews completed work orders to ensure correctness and accuracy of charges; enters and updates records, makes arrangements for the return of vehicles or equipment to customers; and closes work orders,
  • Arranges and completes required documents for rental of vehicles to customers when appropriate for type and duration of service being provided.
  • Dispatches Countyowned tow vehicles or private tow services to transport disabled vehicles.
  • Supervises the work of technical subordinate staff by scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, providing training and counseling and evaluating performance.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
