JOB OVERVIEW

Supervises and/or performs duties related to park patrolling, interpretive programs, groundskeeping, fee collection, custodial and skilled building trades.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
One year of experience in park operations, maintenance and programs.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and
Possession of a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification with Practical Application; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.
  • Supervises, assigns and reviews the work of park personnel engaged in park patrolling, groundskeeping, custodial, interpretive and recreational programs, and building maintenance and repair.
  • Participates in and assists park management in defining goals and objectives; providing budget inputs; training of staff; park inspections; establishing interpretive programs; preparation of purchase requisitions/orders; and procurement of tools, chemicals, materials and other supplies.
  • Patrols park grounds and facilities to ensure compliance by patrons with ordinances and regulations; provides information and guidance to visitors concerning park services; opens and closes gates, takes reservations and collects camping fees, controls traffic; monitors and oversees aquatic and swimming areas.
  • Provides first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to patrons during emergencies.
  • Gives guided tours and makes presentations to visitors, students and other groups.
  • Maintains and repairs park structures including picnic shelters, tables, boardwalks, docks, gates, fences, restrooms and other facilities by performing skilled and semiskilled carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical and other building maintenance work.
  • Plants trees and shrubs; mows and edges lawn; and performs other groundskeeping, lawn maintenance and general landscaping work.
  • Cleans and resupplies restrooms, picnic shelters and other facilities; collects and empties trash.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports on attendance, emergencies and other incidents and activities.
  • Collects park entry and other related fees. 
  • Performs other related duties as required.
