JOB OVERVIEW

Performs duties in the review of computer system specifications and the coding of these specifications into machine readable programs using appropriate computer languages.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree in in Geography or Math; and
One year of experience in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) programming or systems analysis.

Or An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below.

  • Working knowledge of the principals and techniques of computer programming.

  • Ability to use a computer terminal.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Translates program specifications, using appropriate computer languages, into programs of coded instructions used by computers.
  • Analyzes program problems and modifies as required.
  • Tests, checks and debugs computer programs.
  • Reviews existing programs to make refinements, reduce operating time, and improve techniques.
  • Analyzes system requirements and develops all levels of system diagrams and program flow charts.
  • Modifies offtheshelf software packages as needed to meet user's; needs.
  • Prepares detailed operating instructions for computer operators to run programs.
  • Documents all procedures used throughout programs. Provides technical assistance to computer staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
