JOB OVERVIEW

Performs duties providing technical assistance to users of personal computers, networks, mini-computers or mainframe computers and peripheral devices to include maintaining and troubleshooting operating, communications, and applications and/or systems software and peripheral devices. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree in a computer technology field; and
Two or more years of experience installing, configuring and supporting computer hardware and software technologies.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Troubleshoots problems and takes corrective action.
  • Receives, analyzes, and implements upgrades to software and modifies as appropriate to insure user needs are met.
  • Supports department and function specific automated programs, multiple operating systems and ensures access to the internet.
  • Installs, tests, and maintains software applications on networks or mini/mainframe computers; documents software use standards.
  • Installs, tests, maintains and upgrades network hardware to provide essential access to the network.
  • Manages computer inventory and sets-up and maintains images for workstations, laptops, tablets etc.
  • Analyzes and resolves network problems including internet work devices, hardware and software for maximum efficiency and minimum downtime.
  • Designs upgrades to new and existing software in accordance with accepted standards.
  • Uses operating system software to create and maintain specifications for networks.
  • Analyzes and anticipates growth needs of internetworking management tools to ensure they are compatible with current systems.
  • Determines data processing needs, evaluates and recommends software, and prepares documentation for acquisition.
  • Writes and implements programs, macros and batch files using various computer languages.
  • Plans and implements backup and recovery procedures to ensure protection of client and system files.
  • Drives a vehicle to remote locations to deliver, pickup, install and/or troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Recommends and provides training to computer hardware and software users to enhance the user's knowledge and capabilities.
  • Reads computer hardware and software product literature and specifications, evaluates utilities, may investigate in detail with vendor, and makes recommendations concerning purchases.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
