JOB OVERVIEW

Performs duties assisting higher level mechanics in maintaining and repairing various types of refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilating systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of the tenth grade; and

One year of experience assisting in the maintenance and repair of refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation equipment.

Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Working knowledge of safety requirements.
  • Some knowledge of refrigeration and air conditioning operating principles.
  • Some knowledge of the electrical aspects of refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation systems.
  • Skill in working with tools.
  • Ability to diagnose HVAC equipment using laptop and hand held devices.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair boiler equipment. 
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to work in high places.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to read and understand job related material.
  • Ability to read and understand basic mechanical and electrical diagrams.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

NOTE: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive.   • Assists in installing, maintaining and repairing all types of refrigeration, airconditioning and ventilating equipment, such as, central, wall and window air conditioning units; exhaust fans and blowers; walkin and chest type freezers; ice machines and water coolers.
  • Assists in repairing, replacing and checking pressure relief valves.
  • Operates refrigeration gauge, volt/ohm meter, vacuum pump, recovery systems, welding equipment and other related tools and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SOME POSITIONS

Possession of a Chlorinated Fluorocarbons (CFC) Type II certification within the six months probationary period. .
