Paratransit Dispatcher (#PRTDSPGENF) GENF
$11.21-$17.79 Hourly / $1,943.07-$3,083.60 Monthly / $23,316.80-$37,003.20 Yearly


Performs duties dispatching, monitoring and controlling vehicles used to transport transportation disadvantaged clients utilizing computer aided dispatch, radio and telephone systems.


Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and

One year of work experience dispatching vehicles or operating a passenger vehicle.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and

Possession of a valid Driver License.

  • Working knowledge of the use and operation of radio and telephone communications equipment.
  • Working knowledge of computerized transportation dispatch systems.
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations governing transportation of eligible clients with disabilities.
  • Working knowledge of Hillsborough County roads, streets and traffic patterns.
  • Some knowledge of basic mechanical functions and vehicle maintenance.
  • Skill in the use of computer aided dispatch and two way radio systems.
  • Ability to read a street map.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to analyze and modify routes to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Ability to communicate emergency information.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and legible logs and records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.

  • Dispatches and maintains status of vehicles responding to client request using telephone and radio systems.
  • Enters and retrieves data concerning status of vehicles utilizing a computer aided dispatch system.
  • Adjusts schedules and routes continuously to meet client needs based on available vehicles and operators.
  • Analyzes manifests to determine driver and vehicle assignments and to assign vehicle operators to specific routes.
  • Prints and distributes manifests to vehicle operators.
  • Issues street address, routing instructions, and other information to vehicle operators.
  • Dispatches vehicles for evacuating special needs residents in the event of an emergency.
  • Relocates vehicles to designated transit parking areas to provide adequate and serviceable vehicles for area coverage.
  • Coordinates with emergency services in the event of an emergency on board a vehicle.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
