Performs professional land surveying duties requiring licensure by the Florida Board of Professional Land Surveyors and Mappers. May also involve supervisory duties.


Registration in the State of Florida as a Professional Land Surveyor and Mapper.

  • Considerable knowledge of survey and mapping principles, practices, standards, procedures and customs.
  • Considerable knowledge of state and local survey laws, ordinances and regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of civil engineering principles as related to surveying.
  • Considerable knowledge of County programs, policies and procedures.
  • Some knowledge of principles and practices of photogrammetric mapping.
  • Skill in the use of survey instruments and equipment.
  • Ability to solve advanced mathematical problems.
  • Ability to utilize computer for land surveying computations and mapping.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Calculates area and writes legal descriptions of land to be purchased by the County for road, drainage, parks, facilities and other County programs.
  • Writes, reviews, approves, signs and seals legal descriptions, sketches, boundary surveys, right of way maps and other documents.
  • Performs or supervises field surveys and mapping activities for projects involving boundaries, right of way, construction, geodetic, control, and aerial planning.
  • Provides internal professional consulting and configuration of surveys to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Researches field survey data, elevations, boundaries, points, drawings and other sources to ensure surveys are compatible with adjacent or previous surveys.
  • Performs calculations and computer operations as required by certified surveys, cost estimates, legal descriptions or field work.
  • Supervises the work of professional and technical subordinate staff by scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work, providing training and counseling; and evaluating performance.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
