Planning/Zoning Technician II (#PGZTC2PCMK) PCMK
$16.38-$28.35 Hourly / $2,839.20-$4,914.00 Monthly / $34,070.40-$58,968.00 Yearly


Performs moderately complex duties reviewing documents and collecting related information to ensure compliance with applicable land development codes and regulations, and provides assistance to planning staff.


An Associate's or higher degree from an accredited college or university; and
One or more years of public contact experience involving zoning, planning, engineering, real estate, or legal matters; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

  • Working knowledge of State and County laws, ordinances and regulations governing planning and zoning matters.
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology used in legal descriptions and land use documentation.
  • Some knowledge of engineering scales and drafting instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, plans, aerials and other related documents.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing.

  • Reviews zoning and permit applications to ensure compliance with County ordinances, regulations, and Comprehensive Plans.
  • Verifies zoning requests by use of legal descriptions.
  • Informs the public on land uses and divisions, and reviews zoning related plans and amendments to comprehensive plans.
  • Inspects sites and reviews background information relating to rezoning or development petitions and requests.
  • Performs routine drafting and graphics duties to prepare maps, charts, and reports.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate base maps.
  • Reviews maps, charts, and other related graphic material to insure accuracy and quality of work.
  • Provides assistance to other staff engaged in various zoning and graphic activities.
  • Interprets various land use codes, rules, regulations, and maps for other staff and the public.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of statistical and administrative reports.
  • Prepares materials for and attends public meetings, workshops and hearings.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
