JOB OVERVIEW

Performs professional geological duties, requiring licensure by the Florida Board of Professional Geologists, involving the evaluation of geological feature interpretations submitted by applicants in support of environmental permitting and remediation plans. May also involve administrative and supervisory duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Current registration in the State of Florida as a Professional Geologist.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
  • Reviews, evaluates and certifies lithologic, stratigraphic, hydrogeologic and environmental feature interpretations submitted by applicants in support of permit requests for ground water monitoring projects, reclaimed water disposal systems, site contamination assessment and remediation projects, municipal water well field design, injection well systems and other ground water projects.
  • Reviews hydrogeological and geological reports on petroleum contaminted sites to prepare, signs and seal construction and operation permits involving reclaimed water resue and/or disposal systems.
  • Signs and seals Orders (excluding Remedial Action Plan Approval Orders) under local program petroleum cleanup contract with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Evaluates proposed water scopes and associated cost estimates submitted by environmental firms under contract with the County.
  • Reviews ground water monitoring reports submitted as a result of permit requirements or enforcement mandates and provides signed and sealed recommendations to management.
  • Reviews and evaluates periodic status reports for petroleum contamination sites undergoing remediation to ensure compliance with approved Remedial Action Plans.
  • Provides technical support and assistance to enforcement and legal departments and consent order negotiations, and provides expert testimony and advice on geological issues during permit appeal hearings.
  • Develops remedial monitoring field inspection programs, supervises inspection staff, and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Maintains the ambient ground water network database.
  • Receives, evaluates and processes citizen's complaints and provides guidance on technical regulatory questions.
  • Supervises the work of subordinate staff by scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, providing training and counseling and evaluating performance.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
