Performs trainee duties processing a variety of documents, forms and applications and entering information into a database to support the tax roll preparation.


Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Two years of clerical experience.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

A passing score on a data entry test at 100 gross keystrokes per minute with 90% accuracy.

  • Working knowledge of general office policies, procedures and practices.
  • Working knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations controlling the processing of official record documents and fiscal record keeping.
  • Working knowledge of the laws and rules of homestead, personal and governmental exemptions.
  • Working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to reason and develop logical conclusions.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to proofread own work and the work of other clerical personnel.

Note: Incumbents function in a trainee capacity to gain proficiency in the duties listed below and become eligible for promotion to Office Assistant III in the Property Appraiser's Office.

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive.   • Reviews and coordinates property exemptions and value appeals, to be submitted to the Value Adjustment Board, to ensure they are timely and correct.
  • Codes, classifies and inputs exemptions and property improvement information into a database used in the preparation of the tax roll.
  • Researches ownership or legal description problems and takes appropriate corrective action to produce a more accurate tax roll.
  • Reviews, processes, and modifies building permits to ensure improvements are reflected on the tax roll.
  • Researches property data related to assessments, ownership, property review, homestead exemption, land and building elements and building permit information to accurately respond to inquires.
  • Performs other clerical duties such as scanning, photocopying and filing; ordering and issuing supplies; and receiving, sorting, and distributing mail.
  • Answers basic customer service calls pertaining to tax roll inquiries.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
