Mosquito Control Inspector (#MCINSPAFSJ) AFSJ
$14.30-$22.70 Hourly / $2,478.67-$3,934.67 Monthly / $29,744.00-$47,216.00 Yearly


Performs mosquito surveillance tasks and field inspection work in the control and extermination of mosquitoes and other arthropods.


Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Two years of experience in mosquito control and inspection, including one year as a supervisor; and
Possession of a current State of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Public Applicator License in Aquatic Pest Control and a current State of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Public Health Pest Control Certification; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

  • Considerable knowledge of mosquito breeding habitats, adult and larvae specimens identification, and control and extermination methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of larvicidal and adulticiding equipment.
  • Skill in the operation, calibration, and maintenance of spray equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to prepare written activity reports.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read maps.

  • Performs tasks associated with the mosquito surveillance program, which includes operation of the sentinel chicken sites and counting and identification of mosquitoes in  CDC traps.
  • Coordinates the work of seasonal inspectors engaged in controlling mosquitoes in urban and rural areas of the county, locating breeding areas, and identifying larvae specimens.
  • Participates in the inspection of mosquito breeding marsh areas to determine its extent and density.
  • Inspects business and residential premises, tire yards, and dairies for mosquito and other arthropods.
  • Identifies arthropod specimens, both adult and larval.
  • Participates in surveys conducted to determine the most satisfactory and economical method for controlling and exterminating arthropod breeding habitats.
  • Conducts surveys and inspections in coordination with staff of other governmental agencies government concerning mosquito habitats of medical importance.
  • Assists in calibrating spray equipment and in the analysis of studies findings.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
