JOB OVERVIEW

Performs patient health care duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a valid State of Florida Practical Nurse License; and

One year of clinical nursing experience; and

Possession of a valid CPR Certification; and

Possession of a valid Driver License.

 

Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Considerable knowledge of nursing theory, techniques and practices.
  • Working knowledge of medications, drugs, and narcotics and their effects.
  • Some knowledge of State of Florida licensure requirements.
  • Skill in performing emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid.
  • Skill in the use of medical equipment.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to work evenings, night shifts including week-ends and holidays.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to collect, organize and evaluate data and develop logical conclusions.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

  • Assists physicians and registered nurses with patient medical care.
  • Reviews and monitors medical chart updates for treatment progress, diverse reactions and side effects.
  • Administers medications as directed by physicians.
  • Records and reports in medical charts patient body temperature, blood pressure, pulse, cyanosis, medication, food and fluid intake and reports adverse reactions to supervisor.
  • Sterilizes equipment and supplies using germicides, sterilizers and autoclaves.
  • Answers patient call signs during scheduled floor duty assignments.
  • Cleans and dresses wounds.
  • Administers enemas, douches, alcohol rubs, and massages.
  • Assembles and uses catheters, tracheotomy tubes, feeding tubes and oxygen supplies.
  • Assists patients in transferring from and to wheelchairs and pushes patients in wheelchairs.
  • Applies compresses, ice bags, and hot water bottles.
  • Collects and labels patient specimen containers for laboratory analysis.
  • Provides medical examination gowns to patients.
  • Assists in patient's admissions and discharge planning.
  • Assists with the coordination and facilitation of wellness presentations and support groups.
  • Works as part of the interdisciplinary team to assist with care plans as appropriate.
  • Assist patients in feeding and hygiene.
  • Maintains bed cleanliness and help patients in and out of bed.
  • Provides nursing assessments within their scope of practice.
  • May be required to oversee operation of the facility, staff and clients on a limited basis. 
  • Performs other related duties as required.
