JOB OVERVIEW

Performs supervisory duties directing multiple work crews either directly or through subordinate crew leaders in construction, maintenance, repair, equipment operation, and landscaping activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or GED Certificate; and

Three years experience as a supervisor of a construction, maintenance or landscaping crew.

Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below.

  • Considerable knowledge of the procedures, techniques, tools and equipment used in construction, maintenance, landscaping and repair work.
  • Considerable knowledge of state and local construction rules, regulations and procedures and safety regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of construction equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings to establish grades and set elevations.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Plans, schedules, directs and supervises the activities of multiple work crews engaged in any of the following activities: construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, canals and ditches; the clearing of land; the installation, repair and maintenance of water and waste water lines, meter and force mains; the removal of structures; the construction of facilities such as parks, park buildings, and park grounds; landfill operations the transfer and hauling of bulk waste material; and the repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Provides technical assistance to subordinates.
  • Provides instructions and reviews work for compliance with plans, codes, standards and regulations.
  • Ensures that all necessary tools, supplies, materials, and equipment are available for efficient and timely completion of job assignments.
  • Maintains operational records and prepares special and routine reports.
  • Enforces the observance of safety regulations pertaining to tools, machinery, vehicles, work areas, and equipment utilized.
  • Operates equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

APPOINTING AUTHORITY MAY REQUIRE

Possession of a valid Driver or Commercial Driver License (CDL).

Depending on area of assignment, incumbents may be required to possess various licenses or certifications at time of hire or obtain them within a specified period of time after hire.
