JOB OVERVIEW

Performs skilled duties inspecting, troubleshooting, servicing and repairing small motorized and non-motorized equipment to maintain them in good operating condition and prolong their life cycle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate; and

Two years of experience servicing, repairing and maintaining small motorized equipment, cars or light trucks.  

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and

Possession of a valid Driver License.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of small motorized and nonmotorized equipment, to include associated systems such as mechanical, electrical, fuel, pneumatic and hydraulic.
  • Working knowledge of the materials, tools and methods used in servicing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of small motorized and nonmotorized equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the mission and objectives of the organization to which assigned.
  • Working knowledge of parts requirements to include ordering and recording.
  • Skill in the use of various tools used to repair small equipment.
  • Ability to service, maintain and repair various types of small equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain maintenance records.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
  • Inspects motorized and nonmotorized small equipment such as hand and power driven mowers, small construction equipment, air compressors, spray equipment, blowers, chain saws, trailers and carts to determine repair requirements.
  • Performs major repairs of small equipment to include diagnosing and repairing malfunctions to engines and electrical, fuel, brake, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, servicing, and tuneups to small equipment such as changing bulbs, fluids, filters, spark plugs, wiring, and flushing and refilling systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Performs basic welding in the repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Inspects and adjusts tools used in the performance of duties to maintain them in proper working condition.
  • Orders required parts, materials and supplies.
  • Maintains records to track repairs, parts and costs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
