JOB OVERVIEW

Performs duties operating a wide variety of motorized equipment and vehicles used in public works projects and in transportation of passengers, pick-up and delivery of equipment and material.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of the ninth grade.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and

Possession of a valid Driver License.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
  • Operates motorized equipment such as single chassis trucks, dump trucks, flatbeds, pickup trucks, fuel or oil trucks, sedans, tractors and/or utility vehicles pulling, mowing or other machinery or equipment, riding and mechanical forklifts, and other similar equipment.
  • Checks and ensures that equipment is serviced and in good working condition; makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, and ensures that periodic maintenance and major repairs are performed.
  • Performs daily safety inspections and observes proper safety practices and regulations when operating or working around equipment.
  • Assists with manual work in construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, bridges, parks, drains, sewers, and other public works projects; sets flags and barricades.
  • Operates air compressors and hammers, mixers, pumping equipment, and saws at construction job sites.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
