Equipment Fabrication Specialist (#EQFBSPAFSK) AFSK

Performs skilled duties fabricating and repairing equipment and component hardware.


Completion of the ninth grade; and
Four years of experience in duties involving metal-welding and metal fabrication; and
Possession of a valid Driver's License.

  • Working knowledge of materials and tools used to repair, fabricate, design and layout various types of equipment and components.
  • Working knowledge of safety requirements pertaining to gas, arc, and mig welding.
  • Skill in operating welding and torch equipment.
  • Ability to weld using Low Hydrogen 7018 rods and aluminum migs in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel or crouch to ground level.
  • Ability to perform work related mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read and understand job related material.
  • Ability to write job related reports.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

  • Fabricates equipment and component hardware by interpreting design prints and sketches.
  • Repairs damaged equipment and hardware using electric and acetylene welding and brazing equipment.
  • Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving, scarfing, cleaning and/or degreasing surfaces, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.
  • Removes excess weld, slag, and spatter from surfaces using hand scraper or power chipper.
  • Cuts metal plates or structural shapes.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment to comply with safety standards and maintenance requirements.
  • Records time spent on repair or fabrication projects and materials used in the process.
  • Operates other machine shop equipment to prepare components for welding, such as, electrode holder and cutters.
  • Acts as lead worker of subordinate staff.
  • Drives a motor vehicle to and from work sites and loads and unloads equipment and supplies.
  • Cleans sites upon work completion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
