JOB OVERVIEW

Performs technical duties related to planning, scriptwriting, producing and directing taped and live television productions. Plans and manages TV production projects and the development of digital media for Web applications with a high level of independence and responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications, Radio/TV Broadcasting, Film, Education Mefdia, Advertising, Public Relations, or other mass communications field; and
Two years of experience producing television or video programs; and
Possession of a valid Driver's License.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Considerable knowledge of television production techniques, language, equipment, and applications.
  • Considerable knowledge of integration of digital media for web applications to include audio, video, graphics, 3-D animation, and associated metadata.
  • Considerable knowledge of video editing systems, computer generated graphics and audio editing software.
  • Working knowledge of transcoding processes used to format digital media for web based programming.  
  • Skill in setting up and operating television production equipment.
  • Ability to determine and meet client's needs.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the production of television and video programs.
  • Ability to direct the actions of others toward a specific goal.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to write scripts in a logical and understandable manner.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Produces and directs all aspects of television productions.
  • Writes and edits scripts; schedules remote shoots including performers and crews; and edits video productions.
  • Acts as lead worker and may assist Station Manager in the day-to-day administrative operation(s) of the television station.
  • Researches and collects information for use in developing program ideas and scripts.
  • Provides technical guidance to junior staff when producing more technically difficult productions.
  • Coordinates and conducts preproduction sessions to plan the effective use of time, budget, and materials to achieve a professional, air ready video product.
  • Operates video equipment such as television cameras, switchers, audio mixers, videotape recorders/players, edit controllers, character generators, and dimmer boards.
  • Schedules staff to videotape meetings.
  • Schedules, trains and oversees temporary and freelance staff.
  • Reads professional publications, researches changes in technology, and recommends changes to equipment or procedures as appropriate.
  • Assists technical staff in troubleshooting equipment problems.
  • Prepares production progress reports. Performs other related duties as required.
