JOB OVERVIEW

Performs a variety of specialized administrative, clerical and supervisory duties related to the processing and maintenance of legal and court records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Four years of clerical experience in processing, examining, preparing or reviewing any type of legal document.

Or
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

TESTING REQUIREMENTS

A passing score on a general clerical exam may be required.

  • Considerable knowledge of legal terminology and procedures; knowledge of the functions, services, procedures and regulations of the unit or department to which assigned, and the ability to perform related specialized tasks.
  • Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling, and arithmetic.
  • Some knowledge of general office policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to instruct new employees.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to perform accurate computations and verifications of data.
  • Ability to type, operate word processing and other office equipment.
  • Ability to use a computer terminal to quickly and accurately enter data.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Plans, assigns and schedules work of clerical personnel.
  • Supervises and monitors the preparation, processing and maintenance of legal records, court files, minutes, calendars, and dockets; reviews subordinates work to ensure that proper procedures have been followed.
  • Compiles statistics and prepares monthly reports concerning various court and jury proceedings.
  • Provides information concerning and interprets court procedures to attorneys, judges, and the general public.
  • Issues subpoenas, notices of hearings, and other court documents.
  • Performs duties associated with subordinate classes.
