Performs a variety of specialized clerical/administrative duties related to the processing and maintenance of legal and court records.


Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Three or more years of clerical experience; including
Two or more years of experience in the processing, examining, preparing or reviewing of any type of legal document.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

  • Working knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
  • Some knowledge of general office policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ability to perform accurate computations and verifications of data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via telephone.
  • Ability to type, operate data processing, word processing and other office equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with government officials, other employees, and the public.

  • Prepares, processes and maintains legal records, court files, minutes, calendars, and dockets.
  • Maintains docket records and diary of transactions.
  • Receives, verifies, and examines legal forms and court exhibits to ensure adherence to court procedures.
  • Maintains and effectively runs the VAP reception/front deskĀ area when needed.
  • Issues receipts for materials and payments.
  • Processes and indexes a variety of reports and other materials according to established procedures.
  • Provides information concerning general court procedures to the general public and other departments and agencies.
  • Records case dispositions, court orders and arrangements for payment of court fees.
  • Types letters, memoranda, and reports as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
