JOB OVERVIEW

Performs and supervises computer operations duties involving job scheduling in conformance with established production standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An Associate's degree or higher in in any data processing field; and
One year of experience as a supervisor or lead worker.

Or
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Considerable knowledge of mini or mainframe computer operating consoles and common peripheral equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of methods and procedures employed in monitoring mini and mainframe computer operations and correcting error conditions.
  • Working knowledge of hardware and software processing capabilities, procedures and limits.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling and production requirements and procedures.
  • Some knowledge of Job Control Language (JCL).
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical computer manuals and instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with employees and superiors.
  • Ability to evaluate operational and production needs.
  • Ability to operate large, complex computer systems utilizing multiple peripherals.
  • Ability to develop operation and procedural schedules.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability and willingness to work shifts.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Operates and supervises the operation of computer and peripheral equipment.
  • Supervises the work of assigned shift operations personnel by scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, providing training and counseling, and evaluating performance.
  • Notifies operations manager of any problems during the shift.
  • Provides training to new operations staff and keeps all personnel updated on new or changing department requirements and procedures.
  • Prepares daily shift reports to reflect current operational status of personnel and equipment.
  • Manages production and operation schedules for both employees and equipment.
  • Maintains and insures maintenance of computer and peripheral equipment.
  • Ensures that security procedures are followed.
  • Assists in developing operational procedures for department.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
