Performs professional public relations duties coordinating the timely development, administration and release of information regarding a wide range of programs and services to foster and improve education, media and community relations throughout Hillsborough County.


A Bachelor's degree; and
Three years of experience planning, implementing or managing media relations, community relations or community education programs.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

  • Formulates comprehensive program plans and strategies pertaining to developing and improving media and community relations to include coordinating agency speakers for special events and programs.
  • Coordinates studies to determine program priorities relative to fund utilization and resource allocation.
  • Prepares recommendations involving special community funding matters.
  • Conducts pertinent statistical research and program analysis within the area of media and community relations planning to promote a positive informative relationship between county government and the community.
  • Provides liaison and coordinates with other branches/sections within own organization and external agencies/departments to ensure flow of communications and services; interprets and explains applicable regulations, functions and procedures.
  • Prepares and delivers verbal, written and visual presentations to staff, advisory councils, citizen’s groups and government officials.
  • Represents the department/agency at meetings, functions and events.
  • Compiles data and participates in preparing statistical analyses and reports of activities and achievements.
  • May serve as Public Relations or Public Information Officer of a major county agency.
  • May supervise and participate in the hiring of subordinate staff personnel engaged in program development, administration and evaluation.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
