JOB OVERVIEW

Performs supervisory duties planning and directing the operation and maintenance of stationary engines, turbines, air compressors, generators, motors, boilers and auxiliaries; and heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment to supply utilities for buildings. Also performs duties relating to building maintenance and renovation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Six years of experience in the operation and maintenance of stationary engines, turbines, air compressors, generators, motors, boilers and/or heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment; and including
Two years in two of the building trades; and including
Two years in a supervisory capacity; and
Possession of one of the following current licenses issued by the State of Florida, Hillsborough County, or the City of Tampa:

  • First Class Unlimited Engineer's License
  • Master Electrician's License
  • Master Plumber's License
  • General Contractor's License
  • Fire Alarm Contractor's License

Or
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

  • Considerable knowledge of methods, techniques and tools utilized in the operation, maintenance and repair of high pressure steam systems, HVAC and related equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of the regulations, practices, methods, tools, materials and equipment used in the renovation, maintenance and repair of buildings and other physical structures.
  • Considerable knowledge of applicable industrial safety procedures, standards and regulations.
  • Skill in the use of applicable diagnostic and repair equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and diagnose electrical and mechanical equipment malfunctions.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Plans, schedules, directs, and evaluates the work of subordinate facilities engineers and building trades workers engaged in the maintenance and repair of high pressure boiler and steam systems, HVAC, and other mechanical, electrical, security and safety, and auxiliary equipment or systems, as well as in general building maintenance and repair.
  • Inspects and evaluates equipment, and establishes preventive maintenance programs, schedules and procedures.
  • Requisitions and maintains inventory of parts and materials required for maintenance and repairs.
  • Reviews contract bids and quotations, and oversees and inspects work performed by contractors to ensure conformance with specifications and contracts.
  • Prepares technical plans or sketches and specifications for minor projects and equipment acquisition.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to subordinates, and trains in safety procedures and operating standards.
  • Maintains records and submits reports as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
